What’s important is how most Indians would know which one of these devices is the best to give them the purest water for cooking and drinking. It’s often not an easy choice to make, because the Indian market is saturated with several competing water filter companies.
To make matter worse, a major newspaper in India says chemicals in these purifiers are harmful. It says “most of the storage water purifiers sold in the country use a chemical usually used to sanitize swimming pools” and none of “the water purifiers in the country conform to international standards.” In another edition of the newspaper, it says that “despite loud promises that these gadgets suck out disease-causing bugs from drinking water, most purifiers sold across India do not completely eliminate water-borne viruses like Hepatitis E.”
Your Choice as a Traveler. . .?
Portable traveling water purifiers are available if you are traveling to countries where water quality is questionable. Look for a purification system (including replacement cartridges) that can last for the duration of your travel out of the country. Don’t allow bad drinking water ruin your well-earned vacation or adventure.
