It’s better to buy a home filter system that is has been certified to reduce Disinfection Byproducts (DPBs) in home drinking water. In accordance with the recommendation of President Obama’s Cancer Panel, a water filter is best used to reduce exposure to cancer-causing agents. DPBs have been associated cancer and other health problems. The cancer-causing chemicals may be present in your drinking water due to chlorine residuals that remain after finished water was disinfected at the water treatment plant.
